**The Power of Peers: Peer Strategies to Support Appropriate Behavior and Social Development, Phil Strain, PhD, May 11, 8:30-3:45, at the Natural Resource Center, 110 S. Amity, Conway, AR, $149 per person, NO REFUNDS, but name substitutions will be accepted. This presentations will address four basic questions regarding peer-mediated social skills intervention.:1. Key skills to teach, 2. How to teach typical children the intervention skills, 3. How to embed social skill opportunities through the classroom day, and 4. Outcomes from children that have participated in this intervention package. Participants will learn to select specific curriculum targets and employ strategies to foster peer social skills. Assessment of peer social outcomes will be discussed along with modification of teaching accordingly. Phil Strain is a Professor of Educational Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Colorado, Denver. His primary research interests include: intervention for young children with early onset conduct disorders, remediation of social behavior deficits in young children with autism, design and delivery of community-based, comprehensive early intervention for children with autism ,and analysis of individual and systemic variables affecting the adoption and sustained use of evidence-based practices for children with severe behavior disorders. **The Ins and Outs of Co-Teaching- one half day-As more students with disabilities receive their special education services in the general education classroom, it is critical that everyone involved have a better understanding of the co-teaching model in order to take full advantage of its potential. Using an interactive co-taught format, the two co-presenters will draw upon their knowledge of co-teaching research and their own personal experiences with co-teaching to provide an overview of the model for participants interested in creating a new co-teaching program or enhancing an existing one.
**Differentiated Instruction in the Elementary Co-Taught Classroom-one full day, limited to 50 participants-This co-taught , interactive session is designed to extend the knowledge and enhance the instruction of elementary co-teachers who already have foundational understanding of the co-teaching model by providing them with an opportunity to explore specific differentiated classroom practices.
**Differentiated Instruction in the Middle School and Secondary Co-Taught Classroom-one full day, limited to 50 participants- This co-taught interactive session is designed to extend the knowledge and enhance the insruction of middle and secondary co-teachers who already have foundational understanding of the co-teaching model by providing them with an opportunity to explore specific differentiated classroom practices.
